Dental sedation helps patients to feel relaxed and at ease during dental procedures that may be longer than usual or are perceived to be uncomfortable.

At Royal Wharf Dental, we offer a range of sedation therapies for patients who feel they need additional support while receiving treatment.

While most treatments can be effectively performed under local anesthetic, sometimes a patient may prefer a deeper level of sedation. Most dental sedations induce a sense of relaxation, however, the patient remains awake and conscious.

Different types of sedation

Depending on the level of sedation you require, at Royal Wharf our team is fully qualified and certified to offer the following:

  • Inhalation sedation – taken in through a mouth or nose piece, this combination of gas is also known as ‘laughing gas’ and will help you relax. The effects of inhalation sedation wear off quite quickly.
  • Oral sedation – taken an hour or so before treatment, this provides a moderate level of sedation which can make you feel drowsy, however you will remain awake.
  • Intravenous sedation – administered through a vein, this method induces a deep sense of relaxation and many patients do not recall their treatment once the effects have worn off.

Dental sedation is completely safe and trusted. If you are going to receive sedation therapy, we recommend attending the practice with a friend or loved one who will be able to take you home.
